Train Tip: This journey required a connection in the French-Spanish border town of Irun. But beware the timetable for the 45 minute ride from Bayonne to Irun. It changes with the seasons, so be sure to double-check the departure times.

I said “Hello” to the young Spanish woman next to me, rather than “Hola.” Today I took connecting trains from San Sebastian to Vitoria, Vitoria to Zaragoza, and Zaragoza to Barcelona. This being Spain, all the trains required a seat reservation, purchased only at train stations. Read more

San Sebastian turns out to be a popular reservation. All trains in that direction appear to be fully booked. I use a different scenario to reach my destination: I travel to nearby Bilbao and connect to a bus from there. Read more
