My train is leaving early in the morning, through Sweden, southward. Outside the train window, early morning fog is lifting from the countryside.
Train Tip: The train between Copenhagen and Hamburg crosses the sea by ferry at one point. You’ll spend the 45 minute trip on the ferry’s deck, outside of the train. But be sure to get back on the train as the ferry is approaching the port. The train is one of the first vehicles to leave from the ferry, and finding your way back down to the train from the upper decks may take several minutes. I saw several passengers running to jump on the train as it was preparing to drive off the ferry.

This means your uncle wants to travel in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
There two options:
- buy a Eurail Pass for these countries, for example a Select Pass 4 Countries (http://www.eurail.com/eurail-select-pass-4-countries)
- buy separate train tickets. some times and prices can be found at the German railway site (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en).

I will be arriving in Hamburg May 15, 2010 from a cruise on the MSC Peoria. I would like to fly home from Frankfurt as I was told it is cheaper either on the 15th or the 16th whichever is more convenient. Since I don’t know the train schedule or cost I cannot make my air arrangements. If it is to costly for the train I might fly from Hamburg. I would appreciate any information you can give me. The journey takes about 3,5 hours, tickets cost about 100 euro per person, but more than 50% cheaper if you buy them a few months in advance.
Timetables for May 2010 will be available sometime in December.
Please inform me with more details about “eurail” We want to make tour for about 10-14 persons may be more. They have a plan to go to Petersburg Russian and east europe. Do you arrange also the accomodation, hotel and tour? I leave in Holland but friends of mine come from Jakarta Indonesia.
May be the traveling begin from Utrecht Holland.
Could you advice me about the cheapper and efficient way?

Eurail is valid in 25 countries, but not in Russia. See the countries here:

Eurail is just a train Pass, you would have to arrange all accommodation yourself and make your own travel plans.
When you want a complete tour package, the best thing would be to contact a travel agency.
Hi, i plan to buy the Eurail scandinavian pass, but i have several questions;
- does the Eurail pass covers the train cost from each of the Scandinavian countries (say, from Sweden to Oslo or Copenhagen to Sweden, etc)? or do I have to purchase different train tickets besides the Eurail pass?
- is there any night trains from each of the Scandinavian countries which enable me to spend night in the trains, thus reducing costs of accomodations?
- i live in the Netherlands now and would like to begin travelling on the 22nd Oct 2009

Hello Desi — You’ll have a great time traveling through Scandinavia. It’s one of my favorite regions. To answer your questions… the Scandinavia Pass wil cover you in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. It will NOT cover your trip from Netherlands to Scandinavia. You’ll need a separate ticket for that, if you are traveling from home by train. You may need to buy seat reservations on some routes. You can ask at the train stations. For example, I know that the X2000 trains in Sweden, or from Copenhagen to Sweden, require a seat reservation. You can get it at the train station. There are different night trains that you can take between different cities for longer-distant trips. I know that there is one from Copenhagen to Amsterdam, for example. Hi, I plan to buy 3 countries Eurail pass. Im planning on coming to Denmark (Copenhagen), German (Hamburg & Dusseldorf) & Benelux (Brussel & Amsterdam). But i have few questions:
1. does the eurail covers my trip from Hamburg to Dusseldorf also pr it just covers trip from one country to another country, not city to city?
2. does benelux counts as 1 country or it counts as seperate country? because im planning on buying 3 country passes but on Benelux, i want to visit brussel and amsterdam also.

I am going to study for a month in Copenhagen (exchange student), I would like to travel around Europe during the weekends, but I am not sure if it possible, for example going just for the weekend form Copenhagen to Paris, or form Copengagen to Berlin? Hello Elisabet — It sounds great. Yes, you can travel from Copenhagen to see other places. I would suggest taking night trains as well, so you can sleep on the train overnight and wake up in a new city, to make the most of your weekends. From Copenhagen, I would recommend: Stockholm, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Just make sure that your Eurail Pass covers you in the countries that you wish to travel in. Have fun, Benjamin.
Hello Aimee — Yes, if your pass covers Germany, then you can travel from Hamburg to Dussledorf, no problem. And yes, Benelux is considered 1 “country,” for the purpose of the pass: Luxembourg, Netherlands and Belgium. Have fun, Benjamin.

Hey…I’m planning a Christmas trip on my own. I’m in Finland now and I will be travelling to Germany, possibly Czech and Italy (via Austria). I think that the Select 4 is great, but I don’t know if I can get in all my travel in 10 days with all the connections etc. So I’m thinking the global pass for 15 flexible days within 2 months might be good, even though I think I will only be travelling within these 4 countries ~ what do you think? Do these passes cover Ferry transfers, for example between Helsinki, Finland and Rostock, Germany? Do I have to book that seperatly or when I arrive in Helsinki I just go to the train station and get on a train to Rostock?

Hi Jodi- It will be fun. Yes, I agree with you, the Global Pass will allow you some more flexibility. And read through this blog for some other ideas that you can do with the additional days. You will often get discounts on ferries when presenting your Eurail Pass. And yes, you can buy your Ferry ticket at the ferry station in Helsinki. To Rostock seems like a long ferry ride to make! Why not take the ferry over to Stockholm, and with your Global Pass, you can take the train south and see Christmas in Stockholm and Copenhagen before going into Germany? Have fun, Benjamin.

A friend of mine has suggested we should rather take the train, but since my wife likes to experience ferry trips in that region, we would like to go by water. Hello Mahdi — Yes, the train from Hamburg will go on a ferry to reach Copenhagen. The train glides onto the ferry, and then all passengers leave the train to go upstairs on the ferry deck. So it is indeed a real ferry ride. Have fun! Benjamin.

Yeah Sweden is really beautiful, especially Stockholm and the north as well… but its damn cold out there, last time I went there it was so cold that I was playing slots in my hotel room all day without going anywhere…

Hello “Rail Safety” — Think of the Eurail Pass as an admission ticket to a fair: just like a fair admission ticket gets you access inside the fair, the Eurail Pass gets you access onto many of the trains. But you know how at the fair, you often have to buy additional tickets to ride certain rides, or play certain games? That’s the same with some of the trains: individual trains may require that you buy an additional seat reservation ticket on-site. (Usually one to ten Euros.) Hope that helps, Benjamin.
