In Pompeii

Pompeii

Pompeii may be the most famous archaeological site in the world. But getting inside may itself feel like a voyage of discovery.

There are multiple entrances, and each can be chaotic, with tour buses arriving and personal guides approaching you to pay for individual tours inside. I’d recommend asking for the main entrance, where you can purchase an audio guide for 5 Euros and leisurely make your own way around the sprawling 163 acre city of ruins.
