The Bleigiessen Dunk The Bleigiessen Flame
There’s an Austrian New Year’s tradition that I’m introduced to this night: Bleigiessen. Each person burns a spoonful of special metal on a candle flame.

Then it is thrown into cold water. The hot metal crystallizes quickly, resulting in a formation that interprets your New Year. For instance, if your metal formation looks like a coin, good fortune is predicted for the New Year.

Bleigiessen is so popular in this region on New Years, that Apple has now developed an application of the game for it’s phones.

I thought I saw a ship in my formation? My Bleigiessen Figure

Innsbruck New Years Eve Fireworks

Not quite as clear, were the fireworks over the Inn river in Innsbruck. It was a foggy evening, which didn’t make for the best viewing of fireworks that should be much better, like seen here in years past.

    Hello Benjamin,

the river through Innsbruck is simply called Inn – not Wupptal ;-)

    Cheers,
