Nice – Ventimiglia – Milan – Munich – Berlin
Standing in Nice, looking at the train reservation board, a British woman next to me says, “Great, we are going on the ‘Supreme’ train to Milan.”
“No,” I laugh. As little French as I know, I have learned that “Suprime” on the train board means “canceled.” This is the faster, direct train to Milan. But since it is canceled, we are left to take local connections to Milan.
Train Tip: Another popular summer route, Nice to Milan, on the direct Euro City train requires a seat reservation fee with the Eurail Pass. But to avoid the seat reservation system and fee, you can hop on and off two local trains, and arrive in Milan in roughly the same amount of time as the direct Euro City train.
Take first the local train from Nice to Ventimiglia, and then the local train from Ventimiglia to Milan. Just check on-line first to find good connection times (Bahn.de is the best website I have found for train times).

Thank you for your tips. Stations in Munich have big electronic timing boards usually be a large chart showing all the trains with departure / arrival times which help travellers from other countries easily board their trains.
