Night train from Budapest to Zurich (1)

October 9, 2008 · Posted in Eurail

I was heading out into darkness overnite. The total train trip for the first leg, from Budapest to Zurich, is nearly 12 hours overnight.

I know that my brain is not capable of powering down for that long, so I sat in the seated cabins to read for the Budapest to Vienna leg.

In Vienna, I presented myself to the train attendant to get a couchette reservation for the remainder of the trip to Zurich. It was the same train, I just needed to walk to the couchette cars.

WonderlampTrain Tip: With the Eurail Pass you can switch between a sleeping cabin and seated cabin. And you don’t use an extra day so long as you are within the same day period. You pay the couchette supplement only on the part of the trip that you are actually in the couchette. This is an especially good tip for longer trips when you may want to switch your vantage points from the train.
