In Tallinn, Estonia

June 19, 2008 · Posted in Eurail

The bus lets us off in a central bus station. Some locals from the bus kindly take me to the ferry, even buying my tram ticket. I leave my bag in the ferry station´s locker room, and explore the city for the afternoon. Tallinn is one of Europe´s Cultural Capitals in 2011. But you need to get away from the harbor, which is crawling with Finns cruising over to buy cheap liquor, to understand why.

The inner old town is a wonderfully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can easily spend an afternoon exploring its churches, shops and cafes.

WonderlampTrain Tip: Take note of which ferry you will take from Tallinn. Most are in Terminal A, which is the larger terminal, but Tallink Silja Oy, which offers a 50% cabin discount to Eurail Pass holders, is in Terminal D. Terminal D is down a different road than Terminal A. Ask a local.
