In Prague

December 5, 2008 · Posted in Christmas, Eurail, sightseeing, train travel

I had heard of St. Nicholas Day, the night of December 5th when St. Nicholas arrives in Europe to give gifts to all good boys and girls. But the Czech experience is something different: Traveling with Mikulas, the Czech St. Nicholas, is the angel and devil, an entourage like no other. On this night, Mikulas asks children if they have been good or bad. If you’ve been bad, the devil is there to take you away in his sack. And if you need to be reminded of the path of goodness, the angel is there to take you under her wings.

Mikulas and his entourage take to the city streets early in the evening, encouraging children to prove their goodness by singing a song or reciting a poem. It is quite a spectacle in Prague’s Old Town Square, where the city’s main Christmas Market also holds fort.

    Hi Thomas,

Need your advice whether a 2 day stay in Prague is good enough?

    Hello David
If it is your first time to Prague, you can certainly easily fill 2 days with places to see. I’d say extend it a day or two if you can, especially if it is your first time. But regardless of the amount of time you have, you’ll enjoy Prague. Have fun, Benjamin.
