The Bojnice Castle is a beautiful sight, renovated with full fairy-tale charm. It’s the most visited museum in Slovakia, but I couldn’t imagine being there unless there was some type of event going on.

The International Festival of Ghosts and Monsters takes place in May of each year, and the castle is turned into a macabre haunted house. What might have been most scary of all, though, was walking through this Slovakian-speaking tour having no idea what anyone was saying, or screaming.
The town square has some cute pubs and restaurants, and the locals are very friendly. One spent the day driving a friend and me into the High Tatras Mountains. A beautiful day trip with great hiking or skiing. But beware wild boars crossing roads if you are driving towards the mountains. Seriously, slamming brakes and swerving cars is not my idea of a good time.
