An unforgettable experience. Few words can adequately explain being there.
Save yourself the price of a tour trip, and take the local train from Krakow to Auschwitz yourself. The train ride to “Oswiecim” takes just under 2 hours.

And from the “Oswiecim” station, you can easily walk the 15-20 minutes to Auschwitz. Any local can point you in the right direction, or from exiting the station, go straight along the street that is perpendicular to the station, and follow this street past a park and straight on until you see the entrance across from a bus stop.
Train Tip: Better yet, if you are using a Eurail Pass, go to Auschwitz on your arrival day or departure day from Krakow, and you will be traveling on the same travel day as your arrival or departure. You won’t be using up another travel day for this daytrip.

Hi I might not have read that right. But does that mean that you can go on the local train system in poland krakow using your eurail pass? I would have thought you would have to buy a seperate direct ticket there and back?
Hi Clair, you can use every (local) train in Poland, as long as you have a Eurail Pass that is valid in that country. Otherwise you have to buy a ticket for each trip.
The Eurail Global Pass does not include Poland unfortunately. If you would like to travel multiple days in Poland, you could either use a Germany-Poland Pass (depending on your other travel plans) or a single country Poland Pass.
Hi Ben, agreed words hardly do the trip to Auschwitz justice. Infact once you get started down the Jewish history path in Krakow it is hard to stop. Kazimierz and next Schlinder’s factory in Podgorze are worth visiting. For more information http://www.krakow-poland.com is a good source, with sections about Kazimierz and Auschwitz.
Thanks Andy. See also my Blog: In Krakow.
