Day-trip to Palinuro

Travel date: Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Palinuro is a slightly longer train ride south of Salerno, about an hour and a half. But it is worth the trip, with some of the most beautiful beaches I have seen.

Take the train to the Palinuro stop, and from there you will find a city bus that runs along the coastline. You can get off at any point and walk down to the beach.

Most areas of the beach have small food and drink shacks. But I recommend staying on the bus for approximately 20 minutes, until you reach the actual town of Palinuro. There are several dining and lodging options, and the walk down to the beach through the town makes you feel that you are in the real Italy, not Italy the tourist mecca. A real find.
